Richard Raven (before the 1980s) was a pure-blood wizard who was a Ravenclaw student in the same year as Harry Potter at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He came from a family of Death Eaters and supporters of pure-blood supremacy.
Biography
Early life (1980–1991)
Richard Raven was born to the elderly wizard William Raven and his wife, Florence Avery. His father was a Death Eater and loyal to Lord Voldemort; however, his father died before Voldemort's fall in 1997 for an unknown cause. He was, despite a rebellious streak, always well-liked by his professors, as he was a dedicated student and often helped tutor less accomplished peers. According to Albus Dumbledore, Raven was also particularly gifted in Wandless and nonverbal magic. A charismatic young wizard, while a student, Raven was said to have been able to talk his way out of nearly anything, and to have been both a Prefect and Head Boy during his time at Hogwarts. At the end of the day, he knew that he would always have his family by his side.
Hogwarts years (1991-1998)
First-year
Richard started at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry on September 1, 1991, and was sorted into Ravenclaw House. Before sorting, however, the Sorting needs to figure out where to put him, whether it would be Ravenclaw or Slytherin house, because Raven is cunning, ambitious, shrewd, and self-preserving, unlike Ravenclaw students. Still, because he is also intelligent, creative, wise, and talented, the Sorting Hat decided to put him in Ravenclaw instead.
Fifth year
Richard was gathered in the school library with Slytherin students: Vincent Crabbe, Gregory Goyle, Draco Malfoy, and Theodore Nott. All five boys had fathers who Harry had recently outed as Death Eaters in an article published in The Quibbler.
In the middle of the year, Richard heard that one of his fellow female students, Pansy Parkinson, had been arranged for marriage by both their families because Parkinson's family wanted their daughter would marry a pure-blood wizard, and Raven was the only child.
At the end of the year, Richard and Theodore's fathers were captured in the Department of Mysteries as one of the Death Eaters who participated in the raid on the Department and were exposed as escaped Death Eaters. With their fathers incarcerated, Richard was home with her mother during the school holidays and took care of her, unlike Theodore's mother, who was dead, and it is unspecified who cared for Theodore. At some point during which Umbridge becomes headmistress, he meets a girl (Lauren Raven) who, without his knowledge, is from the future and his daughter.
Sixth year
During his first lesson with Professor Slughorn, he sat next to Blaise while Draco sat next to Theodore, who both sniggered when Hermione revealed that she was a Muggle-born.
Seventh year
The seventh year contained the most important exams given at Hogwarts — the N.E.W.T. exam about each of the subjects. Richard luckily succeeded in all exams. He was appointed Head Boy respectively by the Headmaster Dumbledore; however, soon he discovered in the Daily Prophet that his father was killed by one of Voldemort's Death Eaters, and there Richard's opinion of Voldemort changed. He wants to talk to Harry about Voldemort, but finds out from his fellow Ravenclaw, Luna Lovegood, that Harry and his friends went looking for something important (Voldemort's Horcruxes), which nobody knew only certain people knew. However, he begins his own plan against Voldemort on how to defeat him somehow. Luna sees that Richard has changed and promises to help him, but soon she is taken hostage by one of Voldemort's Death Eaters and taken to Malfoy Manor, where Richard is more than angry with Voldemort and his followers.
Later, one of Hufflepuff's students, Susan Bones, helped him, and they became close during his plan to defeat the Dark Lord and his followers.
Battle of Hogwarts
Ginny Weasley: "Well done, everyone."
Richard: "Look out! Incoming!"
Hannah Abbott: "Everyone, get back inside!"
Ginny Weasley: "Get back to the Great Hall."
— Richard, Hannah, and Ginny
He was horrified and confounded when Voldemort announced Harry was dead; however, when it was revealed that Harry lived, he was happy and relieved.
Later, Richard fought in the Battle of Hogwarts against the Death Eaters with his fellow students.
After Hogwarts (1998 - 2018)
Richard married his fellow Hufflepuff student and closest friend, Susan Bones, and had two children. However, he began dealing with dark arts again, which led Susan to divorce him and take the children with her eventually.
Magical abilities and skills
- Magical mastery: Even at a young age, Raven proved himself to be a precociously talented magical prodigy, as he was able to utilize and control magic, without the use of a wand or even knowing the very existence of magic itself, to an unnaturally high level: he had the power to move objects with his mind, to communicate with and control animals, and even inflict harm on those who opposed or annoyed him. As a student of Hogwarts, Raven was acknowledged by Headmaster Dumbledore as the most brilliant student in the school's history.
- Dark Arts: Raven was exceptionally skilled in the Dark Arts, widely considered the most powerful practitioner of the Dark Arts, like his ancestors, Salazar Slytherin and Tom Riddle.
- Wandless and nonverbal magic: Richard was exceptionally skilled at learning without using a wand, even though his father taught him during his teen years.
- Duelling: Raven was a duellist of immense, nearly unparalleled skill.
- Potions: Raven was exceptionally knowledgeable about potions, as he was aware of an advanced dark Regeneration potion that could resurrect him to full power and corporeal form.
- Charms: Raven was extremely skillful with charms, as he was able to cast a Disillusionment Charm so powerful that it hid him from his own eyes, a very advanced level of magic.
- Apparition: Raven was exceptionally proficient in Apparition and could apparate with pinpoint accuracy even when locked in combat.
- Occlumency and Legilimency: Raven was exceptionally adept and gifted in the use of both Occlumency and Legilimency, being able to effectively shield his own mind and penetrate the minds of others.
- Parseltongue (possibly): Raven possibly has gained this ability; however, it's unclear even if he is a descendant of Salazar Slytherin.
- Defense Against the Dark Arts: the subject and core class taught at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in which students studied and learned how to defend themselves against all aspects of the Dark Arts, including dark creatures, curses, hexes, and jinxes (dark charms), and duelling.
- Spell creation: Raven was also extremely capable of inventing his own magical spells.
Possessions
- Time-Turner: Richard owned a time-turner that he got from Theodore Nott once when they were close friends, but time-turners were not registered or approved by the Ministry. However, when her daughter's birthday came, he sent Lauren a birthday gift from Hogwarts; however, Lauren thought her father had stolen this and wanted to send this back, but decided to keep it later.
