Prof. Phineas Nigellus Black (b. 1847 – d. 1892) was a pure-blood wizard born to the House of Black. He was the younger brother of Sirius Black I, the older brother of Elladora and Iola Black. He attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry as a member of Slytherin House, later becoming the school's least popular Headmaster. He married Ursula Flint and had five children: Sirius, Phineas, Arcturus, Belvina, and Cygnus. He forbade Quidditch during the 1890–1891 school year and did not experience resisting Ranrok's goblin rebellion as most staff members did.


Black's Death

Professor Black died in 1892 at age 45. At the time of his death, Phineas Nigellus had five children, at least thirteen grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Many more would be born after his death.

After Black's death, Matilda Weasley became a temporary Headmistress until 1925 when Dippet took over this position.
